These unproduced screenplays represent the best of Mean Time Productions’ portfolio (there’s plenty more where these came from). We are making these available because, frankly, we think they’re our best work and they’re doing no one any good sitting on a shelf.
Although many were collaborative efforts, the final pass and overall style reflect Michael Mongillo’s sensibilities as a screenwriter. While his approach is more common now, when assessed through the still-dominant Syd Field school, he’s breaking the rules. His writing infuses literary prose, strong mood, and psychological undercurrents into the action lines. Crafted to make readers see the envisioned imagery and feel the intended tone, they almost read like someone describing a movie as they’re watching it. Michael’s style is in the same camp as Richard Price (The Color of Money), Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko), and, taken to the extreme, Lem Dobbs (The Limey). This not-quite-standard approach has consistently earned praise, with many producers declaring several of the screenplays presented here among the best they’ve ever read. We could drop names. But we won’t. You’re welcome.
So, with over thirty years in filmmaking, multiple features screened at major festivals, and distribution by companies the likes of Quiver, Sony, and The Orchard, Team Mean Time has nothing left to prove. A hit film would have been nice, but here we are. A future feature-length production is only likely under very specific circumstances: either a big-budget project with a PGA producer and a worldwide distribution deal lined-up before a single frame is shot, or something micro-budget and completely nonunion. Still, it’s hard to imagine either path coming together, at least for now.
So here it is: we’re not using these. Maybe you will. If you’re a filmmaker—even a first-time filmmaker—you can ask. If we like what we hear, it’s yours. Look through the stack. Reach out if one grabs you.

Yes, it’s all actually copyrighted, not just stuck in a drawer or mailed to ourselves in an envelope. That includes the summaries, backstories, intros, artwork, and everything else you see here (and within). We're reasonable people; if you have a creative use in mind, just ask. We're likely to say yes. But don't assume. Theft is still theft.
